Numerous restaurants, Celtic pubs and lounges with local musical entertainment, downtown shopping district, a casino, waterfront boardwalk with summer entertainment and festivals, yacht club, and historical sights. Savoy Theatre
The Savoy Theatre is located in Glace Bay, approximately 20 minutes from Sydney, and 15 minutes from the University. It is a well-known concert hall and hosts many musical events each year.

Festivals and Recreation There are many recreational activities available in the local area and in Cape Breton. Cape Breton hosts some of the most spectacular scenery on the East Coast, and is home to many summer festivals and events, all within two hours of the University. Fortress Louisbourg. Half hour drive from the University is a 17th Century French Fortress complete with animators, guided tours, and daily activities. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean, and complete in historical detail, when you step through the gates you are back in 17th Century France. Alexander Graham Bell Museum, Baddeck. One hour drive from the University. Baddeck is situated on the Bras d’or Lakes, the largest salt-water lakes in the world. It offers sailing tours and harbor cruises, golfing, walking tours, numerous tourist shops and restaurants, and is home to the Bell Museum that houses many of Alexander Graham Bells inventions. Cape Breton Highlands National Park and Cabot Trail Within a two hour drive from the University is the world renown, spectacular, and absolutely awesome Cabot Trail and Highlands National Park. Hiking, camping, fishing, sailing tours, whale watching, golfing (on Canada’s number one rated course, the Highland Links), swimming, kayaking, and scenic tours.
